Why the lot identifier is the key
A product name describes a material in general. A lot identifier describes one production batch of it. Analytical testing is performed on samples from a lot, so every meaningful record (a certificate of analysis, a verification entry, a receiving log line) hangs off the lot identifier, not the name. Two vials with the same name and different lots are, for documentation purposes, two different things.
Reading an Arctic Lab Supply lot code
Lot identifiers on Arctic Lab Supply labels follow a compact pattern: a short material prefix, a production period, and a sequence letter. For example, BCP-2502-B is the second lot (B) of a BPC-157 production period coded 2502, and RT-2502-A is the first lot of an AL-RT period with the same code. The strength is printed separately on the label and stated separately on the report; a lot code alone does not imply a strength.

From label to record in four steps
- At receipt, write down the material name, labeled strength, and lot identifier for each container, along with the date and the person receiving it.
- Open the batch COA library and find the entry whose product, strength, and lot all match. Partial matches do not count.
- Follow the entry's verification link to the testing laboratory and confirm the certificate number corresponds to the same lot and date.
- Store the PDF, the certificate number, and the verification date with the receiving record so the chain can be reproduced later without the website.
What breaks traceability
- Relabeling or transferring material to a container without carrying the lot identifier over.
- Filing a report under the material name only, so it can no longer be told apart from other lots.
- Accepting a report whose lot does not appear on any received container.
- Losing the receiving date, which is what later lets the laboratory reconstruct which lot was in use when.
Questions to ask a supplier
Which lot was this vial filled from? Where is the published report for that exact lot and strength? Can the issuing laboratory verify the certificate number? When a supplier can answer all three with documents rather than assurances, the vial is traceable. When they cannot, record the gap and classify the material accordingly under the laboratory's own procedures.
